Habitat

  • On host only.

Lifecycle

  • Egg   →   3 larval stages   →   adult.

Transmission

  • Close contact.

Pathological effects

  • Hypersensitivity may lead to self-trauma.
  • Anemia with heavy infestations.

Other Host Effects

  • May be carried in small numbers with no consequences.

Control

Control via chemotherapies

  • Ivermectin   Ivermectin  200-400 microg/kg SC, 3 injections at 2 week intervals.

Control via environment

  • Treat all in-contact rabbits.

Other countermeasures

  • Imidocloprid   Imidacloprid  (Advantage, Bayer) - licensed in the UK for rabbits.
