Pancytopenia in cats
Pancytopenia is an relatively rare condition in cats. Underlying causes include infectious, cancerous and immune-mediated diseases as well as intoxication. In regard to the recent spike in cats suffering from pancytopenia, there is concern over the possibility of a link between this condition and certain dry cat foods that have recently been recalled. If your cat is showing signs of being unwell, check the list of potentially affected foods (this can be found at: https://www.food.gov.uk/news-alerts/alert/fsa-prin-36-2021). Owners should then stop feeding that particular food if it is listed as potentially linked to the condition and change to another dry/wet cat food as recommended by your vet.
If you need any guidance please consult your veterinary practice.
