Physical properties

  • Sterile, colorless solution.

Storage requirements

  • Store in refrigerator at 2-8°C, do not freeze. Do not shake. Single use vial because it contains no preservatives.

Indications

  • Treatment of anemia due to chronic renal failure   Kidney: chronic kidney disease  in dogs and cats.
  • Used to treat anemic human patients with cancer and cats with FeLV-associated anemia   Feline leukemia virus disease  .
  • Also reported in the treatment of myelodysplastic syndromes in dogs (Weiss, 2003).
  • Not indicated in conditions where high serum concentrations of the hormone already exist (eg hemolytic anemia, anemia due to blood loss), where anemia is due to iron deficiency or where systemic hypertension is present.

  • Androgens - may increase sensitivity to EPO.
  • Desmopressin   Desmopressin   - decreased bleeding times.

with diagnostic tests

  • Will increase hematocrit and reticulocyte count.
