Indications

  • Esophageal, gastric and duodenal ulceration, usually with H2 antagonist, eg cimetidine Cimetidine, ranitidine, but given separately.
  • Gastrointestinal ulcerative conditions are not commonly diagnosed in reptiles.
  • Reports on the use of sucralfate in reptiles are anecdotal.
  • It could potentially be used to treat hyperphosphatemia in cases of kidney failure.

  • Sucralfate may impair the oral absorption of the following drugs (separate doses by at least 2 h to minimize this effect):
    • Ciprofloxacin.
    • Digoxin.
    • Ketoconazole.
    • Levothyroxine.
    • Penicillamine.
    • Tetracyclines.
    • Vitamins (fat soluble).
    • Warfarin.
