Guinea Pigs

Texel

Contributor(s): Vetstream Ltd

Introduction

General information

  • A fairly new breed of guinea pig, first recognised in the 1990s.
  • The Texel is genetically a Silkie Silkie with an added Rex Rex gene which gives it it's rexoid appearance.
  • Known for their coarse, thick, wavy/curly hair.
  • They require a lot of grooming; if the guinea pig is not a show animal, the hair can be trimmed to keep it tidy and to remove any knots/matted areas.
