Introduction

  • To access the hip joint for acetabular and femoral head/neck fracture repairs using trochanteric osteotomy.
  • To reduce luxated hip.

Uses

  • Where closed reduction Closed reduction: hip failed or inappropriate, eg fractures or stabilization of reduction required.
  • Exploration of hip joint.
  • Reconstruction of fractures in cranial acetabulum.
  • Femoral head and neck fracture Femur: head and neck fracture fixation.
  • Total hip replacement (not often used for this).

Advantages

  • Provides complete exposure of hip region.
