Introduction

  • Rare.
  • Cause: failed formation of lens tissue during prenatal ocular development.
  • Signs: typically in the 6 o'clock position, often associated with other defects, eg microphthalmos, due to failed closure of optic fissure.Atypically in another position -linked with ischemic area with abnormal vasculature as in grades PHPV-PHTVL.
  • May affect iris, ciliary body or choroid, viz. zonules absent or abnormally formed.
  • Often associated cataract → unacceptable vision → lendectomy necessary.
