Introduction

General information

  • The Russells name is derived from a Victorian hunting parson, the Reverend John (Jack) Russell.
  • The American Jack Russell and the UKs Parson Russell are very similar, but, due to a copyright on the name Parson Jack Russell US dogs are registered with the AKC as Jack Russell Terriers.
  • American Jack Russell Terriers should not be confused with the UKs Jack Russells, which are shorter legged. UK Jack Russells are very popular pets.
  • Jack Russells may be smooth or rough coated.
  • An intelligent breed that can become destructive when bored.
  • Not suited particularly well to urban living unless given a great deal of exercise and freedom.
