Colors and distuingishing features
- Holsteins are large animals with distinctive color markings, usually black and white but they can also be red and white (Red and White Holstein or Red Holstein). In order to be registered, black and white cattle cannot be only of one color.
- The cattle are naturally horned but are usually de-horned soon after birth.
- They have a smart head carriage with alert eyes and ears.
- The chest is deep and wide and the ribs well-sprung, the top line straight and the rump long and level.
- The udder is well balanced and strongly attached.
