Weight

  • Mature bulls in good working condition weigh 775–1000 kg and cows 450–600 kg.

Height

For mature cattle (3 years +), measured at the Hip:
  • Cows:  within range of 130-144cms with ideal range of 135-140cms.
  • Bulls:  within range of 140-158cms with ideal range of 150-155cms.

Colors and distuingishing features

  • Devon cattle vary in color from a rich deep red to lighter red, but a bright ruby red is preferred and gives rise to the name, Red Ruby Devon. The cattle are red all over the body save for a white tail switch.
  • Their coat is short and sleek in summer but grows longer in winter to protect from harsher weather conditions.
  • They are an excellent grassland breed.
  • Their thick hide gives added protection, though the skin is now thinner than previously.
  • Modern Devon cattle are medium-sized and active and kept for beef production.
