The Golden Retriever in Art


28 Jan - The Kennel Club Art Gallery’s next exhibition, The Golden Retriever in Art, opens on 9th February and runs until 12th June 2009. The exhibition focuses not only on the history of the breed, but also shows how the Golden Retriever has been portrayed in contemporary art. The exhibition includes a wonderful selection of paintings from private homes, which have never been seen in public before.

Animal Dental Procedures Cost Millions


28 Jan - According to recent research owners of uninsured pets are paying £21 million for animal dental procedures. Figures released by Sainsbury's Finance reveal that 100,000 people are paying millions for pet dental treatment because animals are not covered by insurance. The bank has encouraged pet owners to consider taking out a policy for their four-legged friends so they do not have to pay an expensive bill.

Don't Let the Vet Bills Bite This Christmas


17 Dec - Dog owners and those thinking of buying a dog should take care to follow some simple steps during the festive season to ensure that their dogs stay fit and healthy, according to the Kennel Club, who today issued its very own Christmas message. The message comes amid fears that an increasing number of people are failing to take their dogs to the vets if something is wrong with them, in a bid to save money as the credit crunch bites. It also comes as dog re-homing charities report an increased number of abandoned dogs through their doors.

National Pet Month Celebrates 20 Years Of Healthy, Happy Pets


8 Dec - With the government’s Change4Life campaign hitting the headlines and a focus on improving the nation’s health, National Pet Month’s 20th anniversary campaign, ‘Healthy Pets Make Happy Pets’ couldn’t be more timely. Tapping into the current social trend of health and wellbeing and extending it to the UK’s animal population, National Pet Month, taking place from 4th April – 4th May 2009, will once again be campaigning for responsible pet ownership, aiming to improve the health and fitness of the nation’s pets and their owners.

Prescription Charge Ban Ends


22 Oct - Veterinary surgeons are now allowed to charge animal owners for writing prescriptions, now the three-year ban on such fees has come to an end. The Supply of Relevant Veterinary Medicinal Products Order 2005 was introduced by the former Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to implement recommendations from a 2003 Competition Commission inquiry into the supply of prescription-only veterinary medicines, which, among other things, found that prescription charges were against the public interest
