Classification


Taxonomy

  • Class: Insecta .
  • Order: Siphonaptera .

Distribution

  • Seems to have been replaced by Ctenocephalides felis  Ctenocephalides felis  in many places and may be absent from many tropical and subtropical areas.
  • In Britain, C. canis is far less common than C. felis , but often seen on rabbits kept outside.
  • C. canis is seen more frequently in Ireland and other parts of Europe where environment is mild and humid, and domestic areas are more archaic i.e. absence of central heating in homes.

Significance

  • Same as C. felis  Ctenocephalides felis  .
