ISFM launches UK Cat Friendly Clinic initiative
The International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) launched its UK Cat Friendly Clinic initiative at the World Small Animal Veterinary Association Congress in Birmingham, UK. Run in association with Purina, Cat Friendly Clinic is part of the Wellcat for Life programme.
This programme will provide practices with a way to measure themselves against a new ISFM Standard of cat friendliness and a means of advertising their cat friendly credentials to potential clients. Practices gaining the ISFM Standard can display the Cat Friendly Clinic logo.
WellCat for Life has two phases: the first is Cat Friendly Clinic; the second part (to follow later), is the Partnership of Care - a blueprint for owners and veterinary clinics to use to develop a comprehensive preventive health care plan for the life of the cat. Together, these two parts will enable clinics to engage with their cat clients in meaningful and innovative ways.
All UK ISFM members will be sent details of how to take part in the scheme. Application forms can also be downloaded from www.wellcat.org or obtained on request from ISFM or Purina.
The Wellcat for Life programme is already running in Spain and is about to launch in Portugal. The programme is also being rolled out in the USA, by the American Association of Feline Practitioners (www.catvets.com).
