  • A long-acting analogue of the hypothalamic hormone somatostatin.

Uses

Action

  • Potentially inhibits hormonal release.

Indications

  • May be useful in the management of gastric, enteric and pancreatic endocrine tumors (eg insulinoma  Insulinoma  , gastrinoma ) and acromegaly  Acromegaly  although variable responses have been reported in veterinary medicine.
  • Tumors not expressing somatostatin receptors will not respond.

  • Gastrointestinal disturbances (anorexia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea and steatorrhea).
  • Hepatopathy.
  • Pain at injection sites.
