Class of drug
- A long-acting analogue of the hypothalamic hormone somatostatin.
Uses
Action
- Potentially inhibits hormonal release.
Indications
- May be useful in the management of gastric, enteric and pancreatic endocrine tumors (eg insulinoma
, gastrinoma ) and acromegaly
although variable responses have been reported in veterinary medicine.
- Tumors not expressing somatostatin receptors will not respond.

- Gastrointestinal disturbances (anorexia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea and steatorrhea).
- Hepatopathy.
- Pain at injection sites.
