Uses

Action

  • Reduces cell membrane permeability of peripheral nerves, with a long duration of activity of up to 8 hours.

Indications

  • Where a prolonged action is required, eg extradural analgesia or intercostal nerve blocks following thoracic surgery.
  • Onset of action slower than lidocaine.
  • Low concentrations < 0.25% produce analgesia without muscle relaxation.
  • High concentrations> 0.75% produce analgesia and muscle relaxation.
