Uses
Action
- Reduces cell membrane permeability of peripheral nerves, with a long duration of activity of up to 8 hours.
Indications
- Where a prolonged action is required, eg extradural analgesia or intercostal nerve blocks following thoracic surgery.
- Onset of action slower than lidocaine.
- Low concentrations < 0.25% produce analgesia without muscle relaxation.
- High concentrations> 0.75% produce analgesia and muscle relaxation.
