Action
- Triamcinolone is an intermediate-acting glucocorticoid, which has approximately 1.25 times the anti-inflammatory potency of prednisolone
. On a dose basis 0.8 mg triamcinolone is equivalent to 1 mg prednisolone.
- Has negligible mineralocorticoid activity.
Indications
- Used in the management of inflammatory arthritides
and dermatoses .
- Unsuitable for alternate day use because of its duration of activity.

- Gastrointestinal ulceration (increased risk of gastrointestinal ulceration if NSAIDs used concurrently).
- Elevated liver enzymes.
- Weight loss.
- Polyuria/polydipsia.
- Vomiting and diarrhea.
- Chronic use may lead to the development of iatrogenic hyperadrenocorticalism.
- Delayed wound healing and immunosuppression.
- A single injection may suppress adrenal gland function for up to 4 weeks.
