Action

  • Azo bond split by bacterial metabolism in the colon releasing constituent components.
  • 5-ASA is probably the primary active ingredient by having a local anti-inflammatory effect in the colon, but the sulfapyridine may also play a role.
  • Olsalazine may be a useful alternative in dogs sensitive to sulfonamides.
