Uses

Action

  • An anthelmintic which stimulates nicotinic cholinoceptors and interferes with carbohydrate metabolism in susceptible nematodes.
  • Its paralyzing effect allows the worm to be expelled.

Indications

  • Indicated for the treatment of Aelurostrongylus abstrusus , Filaroides osleri and Capillaria aerophilia  Capillaria aerophilia  in cats and dogs.
  • Ascaidia columbiae and Capillaria obsignata in racing and show pigeons.
  • Immunocompromise.

Adverse reactions

Effects of overdosage

  • Overdosage may lead to respiratory depression requiring artificial ventilation with oxygen.

Other reported reactions

  • Vomiting commonly occurs in young and racing pigeons 1-2 hours after dosing.
  • Dogs: vomiting, diarrhea, panting, shaking, agitation, agranulocytosis, dyspnea, pulmonary edema and immune-mediated skin lesions.
  • Cats: include hypersalivation, excitement, mydriasis and vomiting.
