  • A corticosteroid used in veterinary medicine as an anti-inflammatory drug.
  • Has only 1/4 the glucocorticoid potency of prednisolone  Prednisolone  and 1/30th that of dexamethasone  Dexamethasone  .
  • Treatment of hypoadrenocorticism  Hypoadrenocorticism  .
  • Treatment of shock  Shock  .

Other reported reactions

  • Prolonged use of glucocorticoids will suppress the hypothalamic pituitary axis and cause adrenal atrophy.
  • Animals on chronic therapy should be tapered off therapy (even following topical administration).
  • Vomiting and diarrhea.
  • Gastrointestinal ulceration (particularly if concommitant NSAID administration).
  • May result in impaired wound healing and delayed recovery from infections.
