  • Inhibits sodium reabsorption at the beginning of the distal convoluted tubule.

Indications

  • Management of nephrogenic diabetes insipidus .
  • Management of congestive cardiac failure  Congestive heart failure  .

Adverse reactions

Other reported reactions

  • Reduced glucose tolerance (hyperglycemia).
  • Hypokalemia, hyponatremia, hypercalcemia and volume contraction.
  • Can induce diabetes mellitus in pre-diabetic patients.

  • Monitor electrolytes

Antidote for overdose

  • Symptomatic
