Introduction

  • Ears are specialized extensions of the skin and almost any dermatological condition can affect them.
  • Ectoparasitic, allergic, nutritional, and autoimmune disorders, often   →   self-trauma.
  • Otitis externa  Otitis externa  is the most common disorder.
  • Organisms most commonly isolated:
    • Bacteria : Staphylococcus  Staphylococcus spp  , Streptococcus  Streptococcus spp  , Proteus  Proteus spp  , Pseudomonas  Pseudomonas spp  and E. coli  Escherichia coli  .
    • Yeasts : Malassezia pachydermatis  Malassezia pachydermatis   and other Malassezia species ( M. sloofiae , M. nana ).
    • Fungi : Candida spp  Candida albicans  .
    • Mites : Otodectes cynotis  Otodectes cynotis  .
