- Suitability of sedation with or without local analgesia will depend on the following:
- Scheduled procedure.
- Degree of renal pathology.
- Presence of systemic disturbances and their likely effect on the safety of general anesthesia (see below under requirements).
- Availability of time to correct any such systemic disturbances, ie not always possible for emergency procedures.
