Alternatives
  • Suitability of sedation with or without local analgesia will depend on the following:
    • Scheduled procedure.
    • Degree of renal pathology.
    • Presence of systemic disturbances and their likely effect on the safety of general anesthesia (see below under requirements).
    • Availability of time to correct any such systemic disturbances, ie not always possible for emergency procedures.
