Introduction

  • Caused by Rhinosporidium seeberi  Rhinosporidium seeberi  .
  • Polyps produced in nasal cavity leading to nasal discharge and sneezing.
  • This organism produces disease in domestic animals, humans and birds.
  • Disease only relatively recently reported in the cat.

Diagnosis

Clinical signs

  • Nasal discharge.
  • Sneezing.
  • Polyp(s) protruding from nostrils.
  • Epistaxis.

Diagnosis

Differential diagnosis

  • Other fungal nasal disease eg cryptococcosis.
  • Chronic rhinitis.
  • Neoplastic nasal disease.
  • Trauma to nasal cavity.
