Introduction
- Rare syndrome characterized by widespread excessive hair shedding.
- Cause : chemotherapy or catastrophic disease → damages shaft of growing hairs.
- Treatment : none.
- Prognosis : good.
Diagnosis
Clinical signs
- Excessive hair shedding.
- Hairs broken midshaft with part of hair still retained in follicle.
- No inflammatory skin changes.
- Symmetrical alopecia over trunk.

- Causes of symmetrical alopecia .
Sequelae
Prognosis
- Excellent: spontaneous resolution, unless inciting factor repeated.
- However, often associated with severe disease.
Expected response to treatment
- Hair re-growth within 6-8 weeks.
