Introduction

  • Uncommon syndrome characterized by widespread hair loss.
  • Cause : stress   →   synchronization of anagen hair follicles into catagen   →   shedding of large numbers of telogen hairs 1-3 months later.
  • Treatment : none
  • Progress : good

Diagnosis

Clinical signs

  • Generalized symmetrical hair loss over most of trunk .
  • Head and limbs usually spared.
  • No inflammatory changes in skin.
  • Hairs epilate easily - leaving complete alopecia.

Sequelae

Prognosis

  • Excellent: spontaneous resolution, unless inciting factor repeated.
