Etymology

  • Lenti - from Latin lenti meaning slow because of slow pathogenic process, ie long incubation period from infection to exhibition of clinical signs.

Significance

  • In cats:
    • Eventually causes immunodeficiency.
  • In humans:
    • Not zoonotic.
