Etymology
- Greek: chlamys - a cloak.
Significance
- Common cause of bilateral conjunctivitis in cats.
- Related organisms cause a variety of clinical conditions in avian and mammalian species.
- Zoonotic risk - role of Chlamydophila felis as potential cause of conjunctivitis in humans is unclear. If transmission to humans can occur, disease is rare.
