  • Used to be placed in the genus Vibrio .
  • Species: jejuni.

Etymology

  • Greek: campylo - curved; bacter - rod; jejuni - of the jejunum.

Distribution

  • Worldwide.

Significance

  • Intestinal tract commensal in poultry, dogs, cats, sheep, cats, monkeys, goats, rabbits and cattle.
  • Causes:
    • Abortion in sheep, and rarely in goats and cattle.
    • Enteritis in dogs, cats, other animals and man.
    • Avian vibrionic hepatitis.
