Preparation

  • Standard sterile preparation as for any skin incision.

Requirements

Materials required

Minimum equipment

  • Ophthalmic kit.
  • Straight Mayo scissors.

Minimum consumables

  • 4~0-6~0 non-absorbable suture material, eg silk.
  • 3~0-6~0 absorbable suture material, eg vicryl/vicryl rapide.
  • Petroleum jelly to protect cornea.

Sequelae

Complications

  • Distortion of eyelid if do not reappose canthotomy wound accurately.
