Action

  • A bactericidal antibiotic of the fluoroquinolone class acting directly on bacterial DNA by inhibiting DNA gyrase.
  • Active against mycoplasmas and many gram-positive and gram-negative organisms including Pasteurellaspp Pasteurella multocida , Staphylococcusspp Staphylococcus spp , Pseudomonas aeruginosa Pseudomonas aeruginosa , Klebsiellaspp, Escherichia coli Escherichia coli , Proteusspp Proteus spp and Salmonellaspp Salmonella spp.

Indications



Infections
  • Effective against mycoplasmas and many gram-positive and gram-negative organisms including Pasteurellaspp, Staphylococcusspp, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiellaspp, Escherichia coli, Proteusspp and Salmonellaspp.
  • Aerobic.
  • Ineffective against anaerobic infections.
  • Fluoroquinones are highly lipophilic and atain high concentrations within cells in many tissues.
  • Particularly effective in soft tissue, urogenital (including prostatitis) and skin infections.

Adverse reactions

Other reported reactions

  • Mild signs which resolve without cessation of treatment include:
    • Vomiting.
    • Hyperactivity.
