Uses

Action

  • Histamine (H2) receptor antagonist.
  • Reduces gastric acid production.
  • May be useful as an immunomodulating agent by preventing the activation of suppressor T cells by histamine.

Indications

  • Used to treat gastric Gastric ulceration and duodenal ulcers (including NSAID-induced ulceration Analgesia: NSAID ).
  • Used prophylactically to prevent stress ulcers.
  • Adjunct therapy for reversing metabolic alkalosis.
  • Treatment of Helicobactergastritis Gastritis: helicobacter in combination with antibiotics.
    4-10 times more potent than cimetidine Cimetidine and has minimal effects on hepatic enzymes.
  • Immunomodulation.

Other reported reactions

  • Bradycardia and hypotension, when ranitidine is administered rapidly by the IV route.
