  • Preferred to thiopentone Thiopental in 'Sight Hounds'.

Adverse reactions

Effects of overdosage

  • Rapid injection of large doses causes apnea, cyanosis and severe hypotension.
    To reduce risk of problems make injection over 15-60 seconds.

Other reported reactions

  • Excitatory neurological tremors may be seen during anesthesia and recovery.
  • In man there are reports of propofol causing convulsions, anaphylaxis and delayed recovery.
  • Vomiting.
