Action

  • Acts by inhibiting protein synthesis and is selectively concentrated by bacterial cells.
  • The tetracyclines vary in their lipid solubility. Doxycycline Doxycycline and minocycline are the most lipid soluble and penetrate into most tissues and body fluids; oxytetracycline is less lipid soluble.
  • Bacteriostatic.

Indications

  • Inhibits the growth of many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, rickettsiae, mycoplasma Mycoplasmas and ureaplasmas , spirochetes Leptospira interrogans and other microbes.
