Introduction

  • Three types of pancreatic tumor:
    • Primary tumors of the exocrine pancreas (pancreatic adenocarcinoma) Pancreas: neoplasia of the exocrine pancreas (adenocarcinoma).
    • Functional (ie insulin-producing) malignant tumors of the endocrine pancreas affecting the bets-islet cells (insulinoma) Pancreas: neoplasia: insulinoma.
    • Functional (ie gastrin-producing) malignant tumors of the pancreas (gastrinoma) Pancreas: neoplasia: gastrinoma.
  • Cause : unknown.
  • Signs : abdominal pain, vomiting, anorexia, lethargy, pyrexia.
  • Diagnosis : clinical signs, biochemistry, ultrasonography.
  • Treatment : conservative, surgical resection.
  • Prognosis : depending on nature of tumor but always guarded.
