General information

UK

  • Originated in the United States for use as a companion and ratting dog.
  • Active, well-mannered, thoughtful and entertaining, good with children and requires moderate exercise.
  • Size makes it ideal for the urban environment, but is not suited to hotter climates.
  • Proportionally large head often requires Caesarean deliveries of puppies.

US

  • Developed in the USA, as the result of crossing an English Bulldog and a white English Terrier.
  • The breed is famed for its sunny disposition.
  • Content to live in the country or in the city, the Boston is highly adaptable and intelligent
  • Often referred to as the American gentleman among dogs.

  • UK:
    • Hereditary cataract Lens: hereditary primary cataract.
    • Dystocia Dystocia.
  • US:
    • Deafness.
    • Hypothyroidism Hypothyroidism.
    • Luxating patellae.
    • Brachycephalic syndrome.
    • Cleft palate Cleft lip and palate.
    • Various allergies.
    • Eye disorders (corneal ulcers, cataracts, corneal dystrophy, keratitis sicca).

Colors, markings and patterns

  • Brindle with white markings; brindle must show throughout body distinctly; black with white markings but brindles with white markings preferred.
  • Ideal markings: white muzzle, even white blaze over head, collar, breast, part or whole of forelegs, and hindlegs below hocks.
