General information
- Originated in Switzerland as a companion, draught worker and for making trails through fresh snow.
- Temperament is usually kind and trustworthy.
- Unsuitable for the urban environment or living in a modest household due to its size.
- Good with children. Good family pet if the owner can cope with the grooming, the sheer size and the problems that brings.
- One downside - the breed tends to slobber a lot!

- Hip dysplasia

- Bone tumors.
- Cruciate ligament rupture.
Colors, markings and patterns
- Orange, mahogany-brindle, red-brindle, white with patches on body of any of the above named colors.
- Markings as follows: white muzzle; white blaze on face; white collar; white chest; white forelimbs, feet and end of tail; black shadings on face and ears.
