General information
- Was nearly lost as a breed by the end of World War II, but breeders have regained much of the breed's excellent qualities. Still remains a relatively low population.
- Affectionate and loyal and makes a good companion.
- Only recently retained a hint of its working abilities, making training to the gun a frustrating activity.
- Has common ancestry with the Sussex Spaniel
, a breed with which it is often confused.
Colors, markings and patterns
- Black, liver or roan. Any one of these with tan markings.
- Clear black/white or liver/white is unacceptable.
