General information
- Originated in Germany as a ratting dog, is the miniaturization of the giant and standard Schnauzer.
- Terrier attitude, yet reasonably calm and good with children and other dogs. Its propensity to bark also makes it a good guard dog.
- Although it sheds very little, its coat does require very regular grooming.
- Less noisy and feisty than some of the other terriers, it is suitable to the urban environment but does not like hotter climates.

Colors, markings and patterns
- All pepper and salt (hairs banded black/light/black) colors in even proportions, or pure black, or black and silver. That is, solid black with silver markings on eyebrow, muzzle, chest and brisket and on the forelegs below the point of the elbow, on inside of hindlegs below the stifle joint, on vent and under tail.
