General information
- Originated in the Netherlands as a companion on the barges as well as a guard and vermin controller.
- Although they require firm handling, they make very good watch dogs and companions.
- They do not like hotter climates and the profuse coat does require very regular grooming.

Colors, markings and patterns
- A mixture of gray and black.
- Undercoat very pale gray or cream (not tawny).
- All shades of gray acceptable, body hairs black tipped.
- Shoulder markings well-defined and all markings definite.
- Forelegs and hocks cream with no black below wrist or hock.
- Pencilling acceptable.
