General information

  • Said to originate from terriers bred in the Western Isles of Scotland (including Skye). An old breed with references dating back to Mary, Queen of Scots (1587) and 1857 in India.
  • Most famous Skye Terrier is 'Greyfriars Bobby' who illustrated well this breed's devotion, by standing vigil over his owner's grave for 14 years after his death.
  • The Skye, however, can be quarrelsome with other dogs and requires plenty of grooming to maintain its long silky coat.

Colors, markings and patterns

  • Black, dark or light gray, fawn, cream, all with black points.
  • Any self color allowing shading of same colour and lighter undercoat, so long as nose and ears are black.
  • A small white spot on chest permissible.
