- Originates from Coquetdale area and Rothbury Forest in Northumberland.
- Said to have common roots with Dandie Dinmont Terrier.
- Quiet disposition but game and can be formidable fighter if roused.
- Bred to work alone.
- Good as house dog and loyal to owners.

Colors, markings and patterns
- Blue, liver or sandy with or without tan; darker pigment to be encouraged.
